Anyone that is even mildly successful at anything in life, has without a doubt, made sacrifices. Some sacrifices are small, some sacrifices are larger and harder to make. I remember as a kid, my dad had a job opportunity of a life time. The only problem was it was 2000 Miles away from home, and all our family. This was a hard thing for an eight year old to process. My parents felt that the move was important enough to for our family, to move that far away. After 5 years we moved back home and another five years later my dad and I were sitting there realizing how moving to Kentucky directly paved the path to the career he carried back home.
I am becoming a fitness fanatic. I am getting to the point where I have goals that I am pushing so hard to achieve, the hardest part is the sacrifices that need to be made. In my life I have to balance my work, family, fitness life, and home projects. In order to fit a little of everything into the same day I wake up 3:30-4:00 AM. This has recently become the biggest challenge for me. There are days I need sleep so bad that I physically can not wake up. Sacrificing sleep is one of the hardest things to sacrifice day after day. My second hardest sacrifice is chocolate. YUP! Chocolate. I love chocolate. Chocolate milk, Chocolate chips, Nutella. Obviously, you can’t get a rock hard rocking bod eating handfuls of chocolate chips. There are some weeks I do really good, I eat healthy. And then, there are some weekends that I eat handfuls and handfuls of chocolate chips. I call that a snack-ident. I am a long ways from perfect of giving up the right things for the right reasons, but I am trying so hard.

There is a certain level of sacrifice that is notable and desirable. Like sacrificing party time to spend time improving yourself. There is also a level of too much sacrifice, where something smaller may be overpowering the more important things. I watched a video featuring Rich Piana ( a massively large body builder who recently died of steroid overuse.) In which he discussed how he messed up his life, He devoted way to much time in the gym and way to much time trying to get to the top level of bodybuilding. In his quest to the top he lost sight of the most important thing to him, his family. His marriage was in the toilet and he never saw his kids. There is a point where that is just way to much. I would never be able to give up my family. For anything. In fact, I sacrifice 8-12 hours a day to go to work to provide for my family.

Know what is most important in your life, know your goals, know what you want, and then decide what you are willing to sacrifice to achieve those goals.
This post is written in honor of my wife and her amazing accomplishment of graduating college! My beautiful wife has been raising our child, working a full time job, and going to school, all at the same time. My wife is a splitting image of the definition of sacrifice. I will always look up to how amazing she is.
